What is a CDA?
The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is the most widely recognized certification in early childhood education (ECE). It serves as a steppingstone for career advancement in the field, demonstrating that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to provide quality care and education to children from birth to age five.
Requirements for CDA Credential
To earn the CDA credential, candidates must complete several key components:
1. 120 Hours of Education: This includes training in child development and early childhood education principles.
2. 480 Hours of Professional Experience: Candidates must have hands-on experience working with young children in a relevant setting.
3. Professional Portfolio: This portfolio includes reflections, resource collections, and competency statements that showcase the candidate's skills and experiences.
4. CDA Exam and Verification Visit: Candidates must pass a 65-question exam and undergo a verification visit where their competencies are assessed.
